Charlaine Gauthier …
Born in Hull in 1969, Charlaine discovered her passion for the arts at a very young age. At the age of 11, she took her first oil painting course with Ms. Lise Godin Daniel. Thanks to her teacher, she has her first exhibition at the age of 12. She also develops her artistic skills through art courses offered in various circles, especially in Secondary School. At this time, she is involved in the development of artistic decorations for events taking place in the school environment.
Charlaine grew up in the Haut-Richelieu region. She dedicates her free time to learning and perfecting her painting. In 1990, she moved to Moncton, New Brunswick to study at the University of Moncton where she completed a bachelor’s degree in Social Science.
Since then, she has had two beautiful girls who encouraged and inspired her to follow her dreams even in the ups and downs of the professional artist life. She considers herself very fortunate to have been able to stay home with her daughters for several years. These moments allowed her to create artworks and develop a personal style. She also takes advantage of this time to get involved in Engineering Arts projects in regional schools.
She devotes a great deal of her time to creating, researching, and pursuing her passion. She perfected her techniques with each new series, collaborating with other friend painters of the region, but also attending arts courses. Georgia O’Keeffe, Monet, Rodin, and many other international and local artists influenced her artistic influences.
Some of her artworks can be described as contemporary realism while others appreciate her abstract style. She uses several media and techniques to create her artworks. She prefers using papier mâché, acrylic and oil painting, and collage, and working on large formats. The favourite medium is oil painting. This medium allows her to better handle the colours and give them some brightness.
She inspired by several subjects, but mostly flowers, horses, and some fruits, coming from her surroundings as well as her imagination. They reflect what she sees around her every day.
Charlaine is also involved in various regional artistic and cultural activities. She served on multiple selection committees for exhibitions or artistic competitions. She is a member of provincial and national associations claiming the rights for artists and promoting art in New Brunswick and all over Canada. All these activities allow her to stimulate her creation, increase her passion, and expand her knowledge.
In the course of her career, Charlaine has also had several solo exhibitions, group exhibitions, competitions, and live creations at special events. Her creations can be found in homes and offices in the region as well as in Mexico and elsewhere. She sells her artworks from her studio, on her website or Facebook page. They are also sold in various locations and galleries in the Moncton area and elsewhere.
